It's a very breakable record, especially considering MJ had 866 and Jabbar had 787, people have already been there and I've never even heard it talked about before.
I'm with Chop on this one, it's more of an endurance thing than it is an athletic fete, and the games don't even have to be consecutive. Only the games you play in matter
There aren't many records that won't be broken, I can think of two.
Ripken's Iron Man record, starting 2,632 straight games. That's 16+ straight seasons without missing one start
Cy Young's 511 wins. 25 straight years of 20 wins, and you're still 11 wins short
Maybe Brett Farve's 297 straight starts at QB, That's 18.5 seasons without and injury for a QB in the NFL. Plus you have to be good enough to start 18.5 seasons
There are others that are a long shot, but I think just about any record can and will be broken
